Populating the DCM Graph/Updating DCM Connections

Populating the DCM Graph/Updating DCM Connections

Because DCM Data Sources work a little differently with Alteryx, there are some things to keep in mind when working specifically with DCM data sources as opposed to Gallery Data Sources.

The WAM Health Metrics module contains multiple visualizations of workflows organized by the data sources that they contain - data sources created via "regular" gallery data sources and those created with Alteryx's DCM functionality are consolidated into the "Workflows by Gallery or DCM Connection" visualization at the bottom of the Health Metrics Module.

For both Gallery data sources as well as DCM data sources, workflows will need to be parsed before selecting them will populate their respective data sources onto the visualization - for workflows with DCM data sources, an additional refresh after the workflow(s) are parsed will be required to populate the "cosmetic" data source name onto the graph (DCM sources behave similarly to gallery data sources in the sense that they cannot be updated by their "cosmetic" data name - more on updating DCM data sources in the Search/Update module below).

In order to populate the graph:

1. Select the workflow(s) you expect DCM to be displayed from and parse.
If there aren't many workflows parsed (you can quickly check this with the Parsed Workflows visualization at the top of the health metrics page), we recommend parsing your entire gallery during off-hours by selecting all workflows and hitting the parse button. Note that some workflows may not parse but that the great majority of workflows will be downloaded and parsed into WAM (overnight for example).

NoteYou can find "all unparsed workflows" by filtering the workflow viewer where "workflows are un-parsed" (its the furthest right column) - just add the parse column as a filter to limit the       workflow viewer to only "un-parsed" workflows

2. Once the workflow(s) are parsed, DCM data should show - however it may not yet include the actual DCM "cosmetic" name but will initially show as an ID (eg. "58ddde9d-f4a1-411c-b48b-08010e89fbe3") - hitting API refresh after parsing workflows with DCM connections in them will enable WAM to display the DCM Data Source names as you would expect to see them.

Updating DCM Data Sources

The process for Updating DCM data sources will be the same as with Gallery Data Sources: Data Sources will be updated by providing actual connection id's as Search/Update terms:

e.g. a workflow which contains a DCM source

e.g. a workflow which contains a Gallery data source

In both cases, the Id's are "swapped" and are functional when uploaded back to gallery.
Note: Because of the common use case of migration, remember that data sources will only be functional if they are defined on the same gallery as the one to which the workflow(s) has been uploaded.

The easiest way to access these id's is in the workflow XML via the Tool Configuration Window in Designer (If you don't see the <> symbol on yours, you can enable it in Options > User Settings > Edit User Settings > The Advanced tab in the pop-up menu "Display XML in Properties Window")

Note: To better manage the unwieldy Id's, you can save multiple "search replace" operations with WAM's "Mass Upload" feature. Download the dictionary and specify as many search/updates as you would like to take place. The updates will occur wherever any search term specified in the Dictionary on the Find Replace Map tab is found in the workflow(s) that the dictionary is applied to.
